INGREDIENTS
CRISP
¾ cup oats
1 cup flour
½ cup brown sugar, packed
1 stick butter, cold
2 tbsp water
Pinch sea salt
FILLING
6 cups apples
1 lemon, juiced
¼ cup maple syrup
¼ cup brown sugar, packed
3 tbsp all purpose flour
1 tsp cinnamon
Pinch nutmeg
DIRECTIONS
- Preheat the oven to 350 Fahrenheit. Cut apples into roughly ½ inch chunks, removing the core. Juice lemon, removing any seeds.
- In a large mixing bowl, combine the apples, lemon juice, maple syrup, brown sugar, flour, cinnamon, and nutmeg. Combine everything until the apples are evenly coated and dump into a 12-inch cast iron.
- Add the flour to the same mixing bowl used for the apples. Cut the butter into pea-sized pieces and mix until the butter is coated and distributed. Add the oats, brown sugar, water, and sea salt and combine until a loose crumble forms.
- Evenly sprinkle the crisp topping over the apples and bake for 35-40 minutes, or until bubbly on the sides and the crisp is deeply golden.
- Serve warm with a scoop of vanilla ice cream.
