Don't miss out on the super simplified applesauce this fall! It'll fill your tummy with warm, sweet, and delicious flavors of fall!

Making homemade cinnamon applesauce is my fall ritual. I grew up with an apple orchard in my front yard, so apples were present at just about every meal in the fall and early winter. Working with apples can be tedious between removing the core and peeling the skin, but there’s something that just can’t beat the taste of cooked apples! My favorite shortcut to a quick and simple applesauce is to LEAVE THE SKIN ON! It’s full of fiber, and it adds such a nice textural component to an otherwise homogeneous dish. This cuts prep time in half, and it creates a delicious and unique experience. Here are my top three tips for a simple and delicious dessert:

  1. Like I mentioned above, leave the skin on! It adds a nice texture AND it cuts your work in half, meaning you can make this recipe over and over again without feeling like it’s too labor-intensive
  2. Opt for the cheap apples. It’s a shame to make applesauce with crisp and delicious honeycrisp or braeburn! Always opt for an apple on the cheaper side like gala. Their softer texture and sweetness lends themselves perfectly to a mushy applesauce
  3. Choose more than one variety if you’d like! Get creative and use more than one variety of apple to add some depth of flavor to your applesauce
  4. Don’t shy away from some added spice like cinnamon. Cinnamon is the perfect addition to your applesauce. This warm spice will fill your home with the sweet scent of fall.
  5. Always enjoy your applesauce warm! Heating up your applesauce, adding it to fresh pancakes, or enjoying it with a scoop of ice cream takes this dish from everyday snack to a decadent, dreamy dessert.

Here’s what you’ll need…

2 lb apples, variety of your choice

1/2 tsp cinnamon

Directions:

  1. Core the apples by cutting into quarters and removing the seeds, saving as much of the fruit as possible!
  2. Add apples and cinnamon to a pressure cooker and cook on high for 35 minutes, or add to a slow cooker and cook on high for 3 hours, or until apples are soft and easily mashed
