When you don't live near the coast, sometimes you have to pretend you do. This Oven Baked Blackened Tilapia is exactly what I need to get some lean, flavorful protein in.

I love fresh fish, but I live in Minnesota (currently…). Needless to say, it can be tough to enjoy fish after experiencing the real fresh stuff when I am lucky enough to take a coastal vacation. I always rely on lots of spices and the right preparation to enjoy fish that wasn’t caught earlier that morning. *sigh*

This Baked & Blackened Tilapia will put an incredible zing and kick to your sad, flavorless, and likely previously frozen tilapia. (That being said, if you are lucky enough to be able to enjoy FRESH fish, this recipe is still a banger for you too!).

Here’s what you’ll need…

6 Tilapia filets

1 Tbs smoked paprika

1 tsp garlic powder

1/4 tsp cayenne pepper

1 tsp salt

1 tsp black pepper

1 tsp cumin

2 Tbs olive oil

Directions:

  1. Preheat oven to 425F
  2. Combine spices in a small mixing bowl
  3. Drizzle or mist fish with olive oil
  4. Sprinkle your seasoning mix over the fish and lightly massage each filet, so the seasoning sticks
  5. Bake in a glass dish for 12-14 minutes
  6. Optional: Add a couple of lime wedges to the dish when baking and top it off with some fresh lime juice
