Yesterday we had some trouble at the grocery store… we wanted breakfast sausage for brunch, but we found ourselves cringing while reading the ingredient labels – what else is new?! We couldn’t find anything without MSG, sugar, preservatives, etc. We improvised, and with a little bit of luck, we came up with a simple and delicious solution!

Breakfast Sausage Seasoning:

Some recipes just take a few simple ingredients, and this is certainly one of them…

Here’s what you’ll need:

2 tsp Italian seasoning (or half sage and half thyme)

1 tsp black pepper

1 tsp kosher salt

1/2 tsp cayenne pepper

1/2 tsp nutmeg

 

All you have to do is combine the ingredients and add it to 1 lb of lean ground meat of choice (we used ground pork).

 

If you’re feeling fancy…

Add 1/4 tsp cayenne pepper for a little kick

or

Allow ground meat to marinade in the spices overnight to maximize the flavors

or

use freshly chopped sage or thyme instead
